Charles Chuck Feeney Obituary-Death News; Famed Irish-American Philanthropist, Charles Chuck Feeney Passed Away

The Atlantic Philanthropies announced on October 9, 2023, the passing of renowned Irish-American philanthropist Charles Francis Chuck Feeney. He was 92 years old.

Leo and Madaline Feeney welcomed Charles Francis Feeney into the world on April 23, 1931 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in the United States. In 1956, he received his diploma from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration.

Feeney made the shift to Europe. Chuck and Robert Miller, both Cornell graduates, struck up a business partnership in Barcelona, Spain, to provide American military travelling back to the United States with duty-free luxury.

He established The Atlantic Philanthropies in 1982, and in 1984 he gave the foundation a private transfer of his whole 38.75% ownership in DFS, which was then valued at around $500 million.

Chuck Feeney was described as a man whose generosity “transformed higher education and many other sectors” by Brian MacCraith, a former president of Dublin City University.
